The Joys of Breastfeeding a Toddler #3
I am so happy to welcome Heather, who has shared a story about one of her greatest joys in breastfeeding her preschooler, Lilly (41 months) and her toddler, Naomi (15 months). Heather is a disabled SAHM and lactivist who practices attachment parenting and helps other nursing mothers working through nursing related issues. In her spare time she studies body modification, writes fiction, plays video games and volunteers in animal rescue. Here is her breastfeeding guest post:

I have the privilege to be nursing both a preschooler and a toddler at the same time. Going from nursing a baby to a toddler was seamless. And from toddler to preschooler. However, looking down at the two of them nursing, it can be hard to see how it was so seamless!
My preschooler shows such joy when it’s time to nurse. “Mommy milk, mommy milk!” she will giggle, clapping her hands and dancing her feet as I prepare to nurse her. It still can make everything better, but she also can give me time when I need it.
As for my toddler, it’s wonderful watching her working to communicate, and telling me when to nurse is one of her communication goals. As I type, she is nursing in my lap, exploring my face with her tiny fingers.
It’s love.

Breastfeeding a toddler is full of laughter, joys, and heartbreaking tenderness. I am publishing a series of posts dedicated to the beauty of nursing toddlers in an effort to normalize this healthy and beneficial nursing relationship.
But this isn’t just about me – I want to hear YOUR joys. If you are nursing a toddler (or have in the past), please contact me and tell me about your favorite moments. I will include them in the series and credit you, your site, or post it anonymously if you so desire.

I love to read of other mothers still breastfeeding preschoolers, even when I was still breastfeeding my sons as toddlers I knew it just wasn’t the norm for the majority.
I heard of so many mothers weaning reluctant toddlers. I know it was their choice but part of me wondered if it was the pressure that they had to wean because of society rather than their own desire to end BF.
I still BF my twins who will be 4 in July. It’s only morn & night now .
It’s so great to have stories from moms of older nurslings. This made my day!
