Yep. Still nursing (even through the long dry weeks of pregnancy) at 3 years 10 months. He also still nurses his dolls and animals, which I find incredibly endearing.

(Many thanks to Tanya and The Motherwear Breastfeeding Blog for the awesome breastfeeding tattoo – I was a lucky giveaway winner!)

  1. Yeay!!! Keep it up and hope you can tandem nurse later!

  2. I have a baby tattoo story to share: I put a little temporary tattoo on my son when we went to celebrate an adult friend’s birthday at Dave and Busters. No less than three people came up to us to ask if it was real, and where to get their baby tattooed.
    *facepalm*
And a big HOORAY to 3 years and 10 months. Amazing!

  3. omg – that is adorable! I wonder if you could do a Henna version…

  4. I liked the tattoo -). I also wonder – is henna?

  5. That is the coolest tattoo ever. It’s so cool that he’s still nursing. It’s nice to keep that close feeling when his (and your) world is about to be rocked with another baby :)

  6. How adorable! I think tandem nursing is good for the transition. It can be hard on the mama but good for the littles. Frankly, I’m just glad I have someone still in this nursing-a-preschooler adventure with me. :)

    • Seriously. I think it is so ironic that you are going through everything with the exact same aged kids a few months before me. I also think it’s funny that Amy visited both of us when Mikko/Kieran were at the exact same age. I asked her today (after a very difficult morning with Kieran), “so, did Mikko ever act like this? Please?!” ;)

  7. Good for you!! I was breastfed until I was 7, tandemed for 4 of those years with my brother. =)

  8. Also, I know how you feel about you milk drying up… I was briefly pregnant and in the short few weeks I was, my milk completely disappeared and she weaned herself. Using malt flavor Ovaltine (yes I know it sounds weird, and it’s not the most natural or healthy drink, but it WORKS and safe to use when pregnant) I got my supply back up and got her to resume! Everyone thought I was absolutely crazy but I felt it was premature weaning at 2 years old.

    • Wow!! I’ve never heard of trying Ovaltine ;) I know what you mean though – I would have been pretty devastated if Kieran had been younger when my milk dried up, or if he had weaned. Thankfully he’s still going, and now he occasionally gets some colostrum.
Btw – awesome that you were nursed until you were 7 – I’d love to hear more about it!!

  9. That smile says it all! This is a great picture – he could be a poster child for breastfeeding!

  10. Olivia

Yeah! We’re at 3 years 1 month so you’re ahead of me. We’re watching you guys! We are also tandeming. Is also nice to not be the only ones on the journey, even if it is via virtual companionship!

  11. I just love that face of his!

  12. It’s nice to hear other stories of nursing toddlers during pregnancy. In the beginning I had pain when my boy nursed. Then after he slowed my milk dried. I started drinking Yogi Mother to be Tea and with his attempts to still nurse on occasion my milk came back by week 16. I have a pinching feeling every time he starts to nurse but it goes away while he drinks he’s favorite milk.
I find it interesting and comforting all the different experiences. THank you for sharing yours!

    • I’m so glad your milk came back quickly! It’s so different for every woman, regardless of what means you use to try to reinstate milk supply (since it’s hormonally-driven). But many kiddos will simply dry nurse – if the mama can take it ;)
