Our (Surprise) Unassisted Homebirth
Kieran woke up just in time to see me push. He ran over to rub my head and say “You can do this, mama!”
There was no time for a birth pool, no time for our midwife to arrive, no time for pictures. Only time for me to reach down and feel life becoming.
Exactly 2.5 hours after the first contraction woke me up, I said “Get ready to catch, here it comes!” And our Ailia Genevieve was born into Papa’s waiting hands at 4:15a.m.
And now we give thanks. For falling in love. For family hugs that include a fourth.
(This last minute post is part of Let’s Take the Metro’s Gratitude Challenge. But instead of listing 100 things I am grateful for, I’m sharing a 100 word version of our precipitous birth story. Ailia Genevieve was born early this Thanksgiving morning – November 24, 2011. Welcome to the world, little girl!)
