A Mother’s Day Gift that Will Bless the Giver, Too

Have you ever wondered what your mother’s most difficult life decisions have been? What she has been putting off until “someday”?
The moments she has been most proud of you? Do you know what songs she used to sing to you as she rocked you to sleep?
What she has learned from her children?
Yeah, I don’t know if I could answer many of those questions either.
Becoming a mama has made me more curious about the events and experiences that shaped my own mother’s life. But we rarely find the time to sit down and talk long enough to really delve into family history or fun, random questions.
So why not have her write it down?!

For My Children: A Mother’s Journal of Memories, Wishes and Wisdom contains thought-provoking, fun, and creative prompts that allow mothers to share a lifetime of experiences.
I wrote the prompts in For My Children as a way to chronicle a mother’s history, to reveal stories and trivia that might otherwise be forgotten, to pass on generational wisdom, and most of all, to create and strengthen connections between mother and child that may go untended in our adult years.
The fill-in-the-blank list-style questions are fun and easy to answer, and those answers will reveal mom’s thoughts and memories on everything from her own childhood to her journey as a woman and mother.

Here are a few of my favorite prompts:
Crayon on the wall. A new haircut – by the four year old. A dozen eggs broken on the kitchen floor because your toddler attempted to make you pancakes. What are some of the most memorable scenes you have walked into as a mother?
Whether it’s a lively annual reunion, a crazy Aunt Sally, or embarrassing family Halloween costumes, every family has its oddities and quirks. What are some of your family’s quirks?
Remember that time you wouldn’t let your child do what all of his friends were doing? Surely the same thing happened when you were a child – what do you remember arguing about with your parents?
For My Children: A Mother’s Journal of Memories, Wishes and Wisdom is available for pre-order now, and it will be shipped to you in time for Mother’s Day. It would be an honor if you would gift For My Children to your own mother. My wish is that it will give you hours of conversation with your mom and a lifetime of memories.

I can’t wait!
It is a wonderful idea!!
Just added this to my wishlist! There are a few songs that I can remember my mom singing to me growing up (extra special because the thought of her being silly and singing now seems almost out of character – I only see her that way again when she’s with my son) that I have adapted to sing to my own child. I’d love to have more little bits like that. I have lots of questions I always mean to ask her but never actually remember them when I see her. What an amazing idea for a book!
I love the examples you use in the prompts – going to be so helpful to jog the memory. Will the book be available in either the UK or Australia?
Thank you, Linda – I certainly hope it will be available overseas!
What a lovely idea! I will order this for my mom and I so look forward to reading what she shares. Thank you, Dionna!
