About Job Description: Mommy

When Jessika from Job Description: Mommy announced to our group of volunteers through Natural Parents Network that she was opening up an Etsy shop, I was excited to support her by buying a couple of pairs of earrings. When she asked me to review her shop for the NPN Holiday Gift Guide, I was even more excited. Support a fabulous work at home mama and help promote a natural-minded small business? Yes! Please allow me to introduce you to my friend, Jessika Bailey.

I’ve known Jessika for several years as the creator of the website Job Description: Mommy. Her articles on natural parenting (in particular vaccines and natural living) have been informative and inspiring to me, and she’s been a wonderful volunteer for NPN since its inception.

While she is passionate about sharing information about natural parenting, the most important thing to Jessika is her family. Her kids, Eliza and Everett, are only 13 months apart, which has made mothering a whirlwind. She has learned that motherhood is a journey, full of mistakes, full of triumphs. She has learned forgiveness and acceptance on a level deeper than what she had thought existed.

Now, she is creating jewelry through her Etsy shop. Why did she add to her already busy life? The biggest reason is one we can probably all relate to: bills. But she also wanted to utilize her talent for creativity. Another thing motherhood has taught Jessika: you’ll never know unless you try.

Jessika’s shop is filled with beautiful and unique earrings, but there are many other things coming soon.

What makes Jessika’s jewelry unique? Many of her earrings are made from beads that Jessika has owned for twenty years. Most of the other jewelry is made from natural stones, shells, and other material direct from Mother Nature.

Nature has provided all the beauty we need. Jessika avoids plastic, both because she finds it cheap and toxic, and because she does not consider it beautiful or good quality.

Jessika has enjoyed delving back into her creative side, and she loves getting feedback from friends and customers. She says that “the best thing about creating is that sometimes others see what you don’t. A couple of my favorite items were design suggestions from friends.”

About the Earrings

I love every single one of the six pairs of earrings that I have from Jessika’s shop. It’s been years since I’ve worn any kind of earrings except for my simple diamond studs, and I’ve never made it a point to purchase handmade jewelry. So these earrings were an incredible treat.

Who loves them even more than me? Ailia! Ailia has been obsessed with color since she was born – she shares my love of bright, beautiful colors.

I have a friend who wears fun jewelry, and she was my inspiration for buying a couple pairs of Jessika’s earrings – Ailia loves to sit and play with my friend’s jewelry, so I wanted to give Ailia some more jewelry to love. I’ve been surprised by how delicately Ailia will touch and admire the earrings. It’s been a fun way to watch her in a new light.

The earrings are solidly made. Even with Ailia’s gentle (yet insistent) tugging, I’ve never been worried about an earring breaking. The beads are bright, beautiful, and obviously of a good quality.

Since I am more accustomed to wearing small studs, I was worried that the length or weight of these earrings would annoy me. Thankfully, the earrings are very comfortable – while the beads are solidly made, they’re not heavy, and they do not pull at my earlobes or swing.

The earrings are gorgeous enough to be worn with classy business attire, yet fun enough to dress up a night-on-the-town outfit. And I wear them every day with jeans and a top.

I’ll definitely be buying more from Jessika – she’s got some beautiful stones in her shop right now: hematite, Czech crystal, amber, turquoise, and many more.
