Giveaway: Little Passports 3 Month Subscription on Code Name: Mama

About Little Passports

Little Passports is a two-mom-owned company. In looking for inspired and creative ways to learn about the world with their own children, these two moms came up with the concept for Little Passports. Every child loves to receive mail, and learning comes alive when children read stories about other kids.

They incorporated these concepts, along with online games and monthly travel packages, to come up with two unique learning journeys for kids: the Little Passports World Edition and the Little Passports USA Edition.

Giveaway: Little Passports 3 Month Subscription on Code Name: Mama

The World Edition is designed for children 5-10 years old. Little Passports has designed 24 different country adventures for its two characters – Sam and Sofia. In the first month of your subscription, your child receives a travel suitcase, a colorful wall map, an introductory letter, a passport, stickers, an activity sheet, and access to online games. Each month thereafter, your child gets updates, souvenirs and other goodies from Sam and Sofia as they visit new countries.

The USA Edition is designed for children 7-12 years old. In the first month of your subscrption, your child receives an introductory letter, a USA Field Guide and Scratch book, a wall map, and a Disposable Camera and Photo Scavenger Hunt. After that, your child receives activities, models and other goodies on two states each month.

Our Experience with the 3-month World Edition Subscription

The first month of Kieran’s World Subscription was definitely the most exciting. He fell in love with his special travel suitcase. It is bright, colorful, and sturdy enough that he has played with it without it falling to pieces. He especially loves the little latch system: it is a moving metal handle with a metal lock that flips up and down.

When he finally got around to opening up all of the activities and goodies inside the suitcase, he was pumped. Kieran has always loved maps, and the Little Passports map is fun to look at. Of the activities in the first month’s box, his favorite was one that taught him to say hello in different languages. We practiced by using the house phone to call each other.

We talked about what he hopes to learn about each country: he mentioned that he hopes we’ll learn about what kind of food the people eat, what language they speak, and what the country looks like.

In the second month’s package, we got activities about Brazil. Kieran’s favorite part of the box was an amethyst stone that is native to Brazil. We completed the worksheet activities together, but I found that most of them were above my (very bright) five year old’s head.

We also visited the online games. He enjoyed playing soccer, but the other areas were not conducive to solo work; younger kids will likely need a parent to help them walk through the website.

As with any learning tool, it’s up to each family to extend their learning opportunities to fit their interests. Kieran really got interested in learning about capoeira, and so we spent some time watching videos of kids’ capoeira competitions on YouTube (see this one and this one to find out what I’m talking about).

In the third month’s package, we learned about Japan. He was not quite as enthusiastic about the sushi-shaped eraser, but he did enjoy learning about the animals and customs of Japan.

We really love the idea of Little Passports, and I’d be interested in trying it again once Kieran is a little older. I think that five years old might be a bit young for much of the information and activities they include in each month’s package. I’d also encourage parents to make these packages just one piece of their overall study of each country. They are not stand-alone units, they serve more to enhance learning with a little bit of fun.

Whether you are a homeschooling family or your children attend school away from home, Little Passports is an excellent way to supplement your child’s studies of geography and culture. Kieran definitely enjoyed the subscription, and he’s already asking me why we have not received another package. The creators have certainly found a way to pique kids’ interest with fun mail!

Buy it!

You can purchase your own 3 month World Edition Subscription at Little Passportsfor $41.85 ($13.95/month). The price drops to $10.95/month if you choose a 12-month subscription.
