About Ravensburger

Ravensburger began as a family business in Ravensburg, Germany in 1883. While it is no longer run by members of the founding partner, Ravensburger still strives to promote its original values: enjoyment, education, and togetherness.

They ensure these values are woven into each product by developing and creating almost everything they sell. From idea concept to final sale, Ravensburger is involved in every step of the process.

Ravensburger’s games have won a plethora of awards from parents’ groups and game/toy critics. They’ve won the Parents’ Choice Gold Award for several games in their Imagine – Play – Discover series. Their Funny Bunny and Cat & Mouse games received Toy of the Year Award from Family Fun. And Ravensburger’s Make ’N‘ Break Challenge, Jungle Jive and Labyrinth – The Duel were each honored with the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Best Toy Award Platinum. And that is just a small sampling of their award-winning games. They also create award-winning toys!

Read more about Ravensburger in my review post for the On the Farm Game, publishing later this week, and in the brochure on Ravensburger’s History.

Our Experience with the Make ‘n Break Junior Game

On your blocks, get set, go! In Make ‘n Break Junior, preschoolers and young children will have fun racing to build structures of colorful blocks. Each player has a set of blocks. In each round of play, players try to build structures as shown on game cards. There are different cards for different skills levels.

Kieran quickly caught on to the rules of Make ‘n Break. He had fun racing to build the different buildings – and he challenged us to build his own creations. He got a case of the giggles when he realized that the adults had to build with a one-arm handicap. The two skill levels on the cards also pave the way for players of different ages and stages to play together harmoniously. We have a game night soon with other families – I think Make ‘n Break Junior will be one of the games I bring out to please kids in a wide range of ages.

Ravensburger created Make ‘n Break Junior to develop children’s fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, shape recognition, balance, and more. Because the pieces are on the smaller side, kids will need to have a certain amount of fine motor skills going into it so they are not constantly frustrated. But really, I firmly believe that most kids younger than 5 years (the minimum age recommended on the box) will easily pick up the rules and skills required to play Make ‘n Break Junior.

Older children can have fun with Make ‘n Break Junior by creating their own challenges and rule twists. Kieran found the game’s rules to be very easy and was immediately working on the red challenging cards. We also tried to think of ways to make it even more challenging – by using a timer, by standing on one foot, etc.

You could also try to incorporate some of the rules of Make ‘n Break Party, where players work in teams, with one player describing the picture, and the other teammate building in the blind. You could also incorporate your own blocks and pictures, adding challenge and creativity to the game.

As with all of Ravensburger’s games, Make ‘n Break Junior is made to last – with quality craftmanship and beautiful colors, this will become a family favorite.
